Pioneer DVD Drive Problem

Posted: 11-25-2003, 02:46 AM
I recently replaced my CD-ROM with a Pioneer DVD Drive,
Model # DVR-A03. After the switch, Windows XP initially
seemed to recoginize the new hardware with no problem.
It was listed under "Device Manager", and it seemed to be
ok. However, when I attempted to access the DVD drive
using Windows Explorer, it would not work. If I put a
DVD disc into the drive, I get a "Incorrect function."
error and it says that the drive is not accessible. If I
try to play a data or audio CD it tells me that "Disk is
not formatted Windows cannot read from this disk.
The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a
format that is not compatible with Windows."

I've tried several solutions, but no luck with anything
yet. Any ideas?

Justin,

Assuming the drive has master/slave jumpers set correctly and there is no
other device on that ide channel, or if there is another device then it is
also jumpered correctly; ....

Sounds like the drive is faulty. This is a fairly old drive. Did you
purchase it second-hand? Also, if your A03 still has its original firmware
it will have trouble reading particular brands and types of media.

Cheers!
Trevor.

Just try a 80-wire IDE-Cable. This fixed my Problem (the same Drive,
the same Errors under WinXP, although it worked under WinMe).
Windows XP uses UDMA-2 for this Drive, WinMe only Pio.

Good Luck

Tom
