Pioneer DVR-S606

I am running WinXP and recently added the Pioneer DVR S606. When I try to use Nero Express to write a DVD Data disk, the drive is only recognized as a CD drive. The program doesn't seem to recognize that I have a DVD disk (DVD-R or DVD-RW) in the drive.
Can anyone give me a starting place to track down the problem?
