Playing music at boot time.

Posted: 02-26-2007, 03:13 PM
Hi All,

I want information on the following things:
1) I have to play small music track (just like in Windows XP Professional)
at boot time in my XPe system. Is it possible to do at runtime image creation
(i.e. using Target Designer).
2) I would also like to know about changing boot logo; we can change it by
changing boot.ini file, but do we have to sign EULA with Microsoft for this?
Also can we change this logo in the post FBA image; i.e. after the OS is
installed on the target board?
Please any one can give solution for this.

Thanks & Regards
Roshan.

1. You can have custom music, when Explorer shell loads. You may have to
create and set a custom sound scheme. If you have a custom shell, than the
custom shell would have to start the music.
2. You need a EULA or a signed license agreement when you ship a product.
You can change the logo Post FBA - modify Boot.ini and add a boot.bmp file.

Just to expand on what Sean said.

You don't need a special licence covering changing of the boot logo.
That is covered by the normal licence you get to allow you to supply
XPE images.

Adding a boot.bmp is fine but what you are not allowed to do is modify
the existing binaries or use MS trademarks.

Hi Sean,

I have an application that I run as the custom shell, when I plug (and
unplug) a USB device the "Device Connect" chime doesn't play. Do I have to
notify the user through the application? If so, why?

thx...sonny
