Please confirm: using an XP USB printer over LAN

Posted: 06-16-2007, 08:57 AM
Just to be sure, I would like someone to verify that if I have a
Vista-compatible printer connected to a USB port of an XP machine then I can
print to it from a Vista machine connected to the same domain if that
printer is shared on the XP machine and the drivers are installed on the
Vista machine.

Is this definitely correct?

It depends on the printer driver. Not all USB printers will work over a
network. Some expect direct two way communications. You would have to
contact the printer manufacturer to see if yours will work when networked.
