I have a Compac computer 1.2 gh 265ram 15g hard drive
I'm experiencing a problem with my computer, the issue is
my system shuts down for no reason, no warning, it's just
off but the power button is still on but nothing happen,
the screen thinks I shut down the computer, and the night
time light comes on the keyboard. I attempt to wake the
computer but nothing happens, I attempt to do the 10
seconds power off by holding the power button in for ten
seconds, nothing happens.
The only thing I can do is unplug the computer wait a few
seconds and plug it back in, system starts up again all if
fine and after XP is completely open and I start working
it happens again. completely dead only the power light is
on.

sounds more like a overheating problem. Is your fan running inside your case?

What processor do you have? Intel? AMD?
