Power Settings

I had a software conflict that forced me to reload Windows
XP Pro. The computer has worked fine ever since, but I am
now unable to use the Power options like Stand-By or
shutting off the monitor and hard disks after a certain
period of time. Is there a driver or utility that I can
download from somewhere to correct this problem?

Is your Enable Hibernation box checked in Power Options>Hibernation?

I tried to set my computer to hibernate and got an error message saying
...."process in use by another process." What gives and how do I fix it?

I have a VIAO laptop and when I recently updated I was
unable to utilize the power settings for my laptop -
nothing shows on the pull down menu. How do I fix this
new problem?

Thanks. Steve.

Did you go to the Sony website and get upgrade instructions? They have
detailed upgrade instructions which must be followed. I upgraded my VAIO
notebook, and everything works OK, including the power settings.

Power Settings

I cannot adjust my power settings anymore. I have a sony
laptop with xp home edition. I have my screensaver set to
go on in 5 mins. About 5 mins after the screensaver goes
on, the monitor shuts off. About 20 mins after that, the
whole computer goes on standby. I have gone under the
control panel and power options to try to change it.
However, when I go to power options I am not allowed to
click anything. Everything is gray so when I cannot click
to change the amount of time the monitor goes of or that
the computer goes into standby. There are also so no
longer any presaved power themes either. Is there any way
that I can somehow reset the power settings to where I am
able to change them what I want. As of right now all of
those boxes are just gray (as in not able to click on or
anything) and they are all empty so they don't even show
how many minutes each thing is set on. Please help me
with this if you can. Thank You.

Do you know if there are any other things I could do? I
tried this and it didn't do anything to fix it. If you
can help more at all please let me know. Thanks.
