Powerquest - what disk software can work through network?

Posted: 04-19-2006, 10:49 PM
Years ago Powerquest Partition Magic Pro and Drive Image Pro (the Pro
versions) could do their tasks over network, acting on machines that hadn't
had the software installed on them. All that was required on the client
machines was a floppy boot disk.

Acronis Disk Director and True Image do not seem to be able to do this. Is
there any software now that can do this? Surely there must be a lot of
demand for software that can still do this.

No partition manager, not even PQMagic, was ever able to resize
a partition through the network. You had to install the product locally
and run it locally. However, most of them can create a partition image
on a networked machine, because they now run under Windows.
Acronis TrueImage can, and DriveImage can probably too.

I used to use DriveImage Pro v4 and it could clone partitions through
network backing up on the server which it was installed on. It is my
understanding that Partition Magic Pro (I have only used the non-Pro
versions) could resize partitions over the network when you use the Remote
Agent floppy. Is this definitiely incorrect? This is exactly what I am
looking for, but Symantec don't sell Partition Magic Pro over the web in the
UK for some reason.
