Preserving Media Info on Data CDs

Posted: 06-25-2004, 04:52 AM
My computer needs to be repaired, and I am trying to back
up all my music files before sending it off. I have no
trouble making data CDs using Windows Media 9, but no
media information (rating, genre, lyrics) is saved when I
do so. The artist and song title appear, but that is
all.

Under the Help topics > data CDs > overview, it
states: "Media information, with the exception of album
art, is also copied to the data CD." I don't need album
art, but I would hate to lose the info, especially
lyrics. Please help and as soon as possible. I
appreciate any suggestions on how to preserve this info
when making data CDs. Thanks.

The rating, genre and lyrics info is stored in the mp3's ID3 tag. When
you right-click on the mp3 files you have burned to disc and click on
Properties, do you not see that info? When you right-click on those same
files on your hard drive, what do you see?

To edit your mp3 track tags, consider the freeware tag editor ID3-TagIT :
http://www.id3-tagit.de/english/index.htm The older version, without the
..NET requirement, is also available there.

Regards,
Ian.

Ian, thank you for your prompt response. When I right-
click on the files on the CD and go to Properties, four
options appear: File, Content, Playlist, & License.
Under Content, I can view the genre. There are sections
for "rating" and "album" under Content, but they are
always blank. None of the four options refers to
lyrics.

I can access lyrics off the files on my hard drive by
either right-clicking the file and going to Advanced Tag
Editor, then Lyrics; or by playing the file and clicking
View, Now Playing Options, Show Media Information,
Lyrics. When I run the data CD, however, the media
information center does not display the lyrics.
Suggestions?

Thank you once again for your help.

Hi Katie,
I would suggest the Windows Media Ratings Migration Power Toy. Should be a freeware download.
