yes this is possible.
There are quite a few ways and there are few things you should do to get
good results...
- First don't give users administrator rights on PC. This will prevent
installing applications.
- Customize your IE (e.g. Remove Tools -> Internet Options). You can do this
by using gpedit.msc. Logon as "public user" and click Start -> Run ->
gpedit.msc. Expend User Configuration and expend Administrative Templates ->
Windows Components -> Internet Explorer. Here you have a lot of things to
configure... (look around) ... :-)
- This article http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/901/ should
help you prohibit any download on your PC (using IE)
- and for user's desktop and settings. After you have created all the
settings for the "public user" log off and log on as administrator. Look for
"public user's" profile and change ntuser.dat file to ntuser.man. User will
be allowed to change setting on desktop but you can log off and log on and
you will get back your original settings...
