Default Re: Preventing messenger OE 6.0

All I did was open messenger, go to tools|options|preferences and uncheck
the first two boxes. So messenger opens only when I want it to.

Does that mean unchecking the two boxes does't work on yours? There's a
similar box on tools!options|general in OE.

Greetings Ian,

To do this, close down Outlook Express, then download and run this .reg file:

Thanks for this Jonathan, is this the same reg. fix that I
managed to discover yesterday (at last!!) on the KB? (Adds
a PreventRun?) If so, it certainly seems to work to
finally stop the Messenger loading, but has slowed down
the opening of Outlook express and switching identities,
almost as if the program is "looking for messenger" for a
while and then gives up and starts without it!

Thanks for your help, it's a pity Microsoft make something
so difficult which ought to be easy!

Hi Ian,

No, this is *not* the PreventRun key -- in fact by running this one, and you've used the
PreventRun, will eliminate this "delay" in loading Outlook Express.

Well Jonathan, you are a genius! Fixed, no more messenger
and normal fast loading of OE, don't know how it worked
but it did, thanks for all your help,
Ian
