printer non-functioning

The black circle with a check simply indicates the default printer (the
one to which print jobs are sent if you don't pick another one). If you
want your 712C to be the default printer, right click on its icon on
the print & fax screen and select "Set as default printer." As to why
your printer quit printing, or what you want to "cancel," you'll have to
be more specific.

If you double click on the LaserJet5 icon, you'll get the print status
screen for that printer. You can cancel pending jobs there. Also, when
you right click on the LJ5 icon, if there is an entry that says "use
printer on line" right-click that entry.
