Printer spoler

During the installation of my Lexmark printer (X6170),
the print spooler complains that it is not running. No
matter what I have tried (rebooting, uninstal and
reinstall, etc.), the spooler is not starting. The
dependancies (windows xp pro) are all running except for
the driver for the printer. I have not found a way to
delete the driver from the dependancy list. Basically I
stuck... Help!
