"printing engine test"

Posted: 07-28-2003, 09:06 PM
I have two computers(Windows ME & XP Prof.) on a network
with one printer (HP Laserjet 4000) in our office. After
I loaded some "recommended" microsoft updates last week
on both computers, the printer intermittently runs
the "printing engine test", sometimes after a requested
print job and other times for no reason! I have wasted
over 2 reams of paper because of this (sometimes it
prints only 1 test page, and other times, it will print
as much paper is available). I've already tried the
reset menu on the printer, disconnecting the cable and
turning off the printer for 1/2 hour, deleting the
printer and reinstalling it--PLEASE HELP!

Thank you,
Angel
