Printing Envelopes - Extra Blank Page Prints

Iım using Word 2004 (Mac) and am printing to an HP 7140xi OfficeJet printer.
The OfficeJet printer software is up-to-date (6.3.4). Word 2004 has all
Microsoft updates installed.

Iım having an annoying problem which crops up when I want to print out a
single envelope. I create the envelope using the ³Tools | Envelopes..²
function. When I print directly from the dialog, the envelope appears just
as I format it, but then the printer kicks out an extra blank page. This
happens if I print the envelope directly from the Envelopes dialog, but it
also happens if I insert the envelope in the active document (in this case,
I tell Word to print just the active envelope page, and the extra page is
still kicked out by the printer).

Iım suspicious that the problem is with the printer driver software, but I
wanted to run this by the group to see if anyone has had a similar problem,
and how they went about solving it.

Hi Chris,

I donıt think Iıve seen this one before but usually when an extra blank page
is printed, itıs because there are invisible paragraphs in the document.
This is unlikely to be your problem but, just in case, turn on Show/Hide
formatting and check for paragraph marks or other invisible formatting. If
this doesnıt help (and it probably wonıt :-), Iım afraid I donıt have
another suggestion for you. Or...maybe I do: Try another printer driver,
even if itıs not as current.

Very fundamental question, but have you checked Tools>Envelopes [Page
Setup] to make sure the correct envelope size is specified & that the
correct Printer is selected? |:>)

I just double checked, to be sure. Yep. Correct envelope size (standard
#10), and the printer is specified correctly.

Yes I did, Beth. Thanks. I can confirm that there are no hidden characters
causing the problem. Iım pretty sure it the HP driver. Iıll check in with
HP and see if there is some kind of troubleshooting FAQ on this.
