Printing from XP

I have windows XP (Pro) installed and I am having a lot of
problems with printing. I have a local HP2100 laserjet and
a networked Konica 7145 and in both cases I have problems.
Evertime I put the PC into standby I have to reinstall the
driver for the HP2100, otherwise it prints tons of
rubbish. With the Konica I can't print PDF files because
the fonts won't appear. I have tried everything:
reinstalling drivers etc., but cannot rectify the problems.
Does anyone know how MS managed to get Win XP to screw up
so badly?
Any assistance would be appreciated.
