| Not many drivers currently exsist for vista. MS had a driver for my creative sound card. Check with Asus, for a audio driver for vista, otherwise you'll have to wait. Some people have luck installing XP drivers on vista (running in compatbility mode, but my experience with that has always created a bsod. "benny" wrote: Quote:

| First of all, people need to start specifying whether they have Vista x86 or x64, as it will help when giving answers to these... I have an ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe mobo...completely different beast, BUT, on the Vista x64 edition, some of the drivers for XP x64 from the ASUS website worked...don't know about the x86 flavor though... | Raven Mill, I have got the new P5N32-SLI Deluxe SE ordered in a Core 2 Duo based machine. So far I have not been able to crack the Asus downloads area for the board (except for BIOS) to see about driver availabilities. I keep getting a message that the website is busy. Sometimes I get the BIOS and BIOS tool listing, sometime not even that. What is the NIC they are using on the P5N32 series? I assume the sound is Realteck AC97 (which as of this week is available for Vista x86 and x64 via WU) but what are they using on your box for networking? | Colin, There are 2 of them on the earlier version from the SE, (SE, I think, means second edition) I don't know if they've changed it for that model. But here's what's on mine: The first is an nVidia NIC, which, the driver comes in the nForce driver package. (That has IDE, VGAa, Sound, NIC, chipset, etc) The second is a marvell yukon gigabit PCIe. The ASUS site used to be the best for getting drivers...the new site is annoying at best...Let me know if you need the drivers and I'll email 'em to ya... | Will do. Yes, SE is second edition. Many needed corrections from the first edition as well as the Core 2 support. The line is a good one. On my A8N-SLI Deluxe I have the nVidia ethernet bridge and the Marvel Yukon. I suspect that the Marvel Yukon will not change. What is going on here is that my system builder wants me to take XP Pro x64 preinstalled before letting me have the drivers cd. I am ordering it with XP Prs SP2 preinstalled (and so will get the x86 drivers cd) and plan to install x64 as a dual boot. I pretty much know my way around x64 and the Asus stuff. The nVidia NIC driver is the one that is usually the bear. "Raven Mill" <nospammingdammit> wrote in message news:OnKtDx%23uGHA.4876@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... Quote:

| I also have the A8N-SLI Deluxe... (ASUS has been good to our radio show and sends the new products when they are released...) The NICs for both are, I believe the same exCEPT for that the marvell yukon on the P5N32 is the PCIe version of it...that is my thought, and I could be wrong on that, but I don't see any difference between the two boards as far as the NICs go... I have the following OSs on my system: Win98se Win2k Win2003x64 WinXP Pro WinXP Pro x64 (XP Pro 2005) WinVista Beta2 x64 Mandriva Linux 2006 x64 No one ever believes me when I tell them that, but I host a radio show and do reviews for everything under the sun, so I need every OS on there I can get...considering I have a terrabyte of drive space, it works just fine... To be honest, I don't have any trouble with the NICs at all on any of the OSs. Vista picks up the Marvell, and installing the chipset drivers for VistaBeta did well for the nVidia. ASUS has XPpro x64 drivers for everything, so you shouldn't have a problem with WinXP x64. (The only REAL problem I had with my system was printer drivers for XPx64.) What I would do, if I were you, is let them ship it with x64 on there and put your own x86 as dualboot...won't be any different than the other way around...Either that or just go get the drivers yourself. I have not bought a "prebuilt" system for many years, and that is one of the reasons for it...I hate calling tech support because if I (someone who's been building computers since 1978) try to do anything inside the box, voids the warranty, which is stupid... | I run most of those in virtual machines on the same board as you. XP Pro x64 is the base OS and both Vistas are the other boot selections. That's just the test box. The new one is planned to be the primary computer replacing a P4 Northwood box I am sending to my eldrly cousing in Texas as a gift. It's still quite a box in its own right. The other crazy thing the system builder would not do was sell me a second 2GB of ram. "We only sell them with a max of 2GB." So I saved $50 buying the same item from Newegg. I'm glad I don't have to judge the technical dept by the sales folks! The company has built me a couple of outstanding boxes. Thanks for the heads up on the PCIe Marvel Yukon. | By the way...good choice on using NewEgg...I wonder how places like CDW and TigerDirect stay in business. NewEgg is the best. When ANY place can get a package to us from their New Jersey Warehouse to Fairbanks, Alaska in 2 days, you know they have SOMETHING going on for them...and their RMA system is 2nd to none. I don't have a problem, every once in awhile getting a bad part, because that's not NewEgg's fault, but how the place DEALS with that is what's important. I've been dealing with them since they came online. I can't use the virtual machines for testing hardware, or I would simply do it that way... I do use VMware and VPC. VMware used to be one of our sponsors. I simply use Ghost a lot to get back to my base system, which, actually, hasn't given me a problem doing that at all... And don't give me crap. Ghost, in my opinion, is the ONE good utility that Norton has. They won't sell you an extra 2gb of RAM? Sheesh...one of the GREAT things with the P5M32 is the lack of problems with the various brands of RAM I've tried in it and I've had no problems with 4GB, other than, WATCH OUT WITH MIXING RAM BRANDS and TIMING. Make sure all the RAM at LEAST has the exact same timing on it or you WILL have problems. The A8NSLI Deluxe is MUCH pickier about the BRAND and such of RAM you put into it. Many boards I've had were fairly lenient about that, but the P5N32 is NOT...lol "Colin Barnhorst" <colinbarharst(remove)@msn.com> wrote in message news:ekPglTCvGHA.1852@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... Quote:
