| Hello, I know very little about computers & GPS. I am having a problem with my Garmin 6CSX. My computer is not recognizing it when I plug it into the USB port to download maps. I installed the software (trip and waypoint mgr) that came with GPS, so I should have the proper drivers, yet when I search for the device (GPS) it tells me that it can't find it. Is a Comm Port the same thing as a USB port? I have tried plugging the cable into every port that I have that it will fit into and still no luck. I am using Windows XP. Thank you for your help | Guest

| Three points: 1. This newsgroup probably isn't the best choice for finding your answer. This is about embedded versions of XP that are used in more dedicated devices (ATMs, Kiosks, etc.). You may want to ask in a more consumer based newsgroup. 2. Garmin may have support to help you since they obviously know how to configure their own devices. 3. I haven't used the particular product, but I can imagine that you have to configure the software wrt. ports to use. As far as "comm port", some times people have vague or strict definitions. Often, people mean "RS232 ports" when they say "Comm Ports". Sometimes they mean any port where you can communication (such as RS232, USB, etc). --Gordon Smith (eMVP) "Old Dog" <OldDog@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:08A4A00B-2DF6-4986-A491-3FAFC17569E8@microsoft.com... | If you look at the post above starting with "S&T 2k7 Garmin GPS 60..." There may be a solution to your problem. I am having the same problem and have sent an email to Garmin support, but doubt they will fix the problem because they want you to buy their mapping software. Good Luck "Old Dog" wrote: Quote:
