Problem when upgrading from XP Home to XP Professional

We bought a new Dell 5100 Inspiron with XP Home and are
trying to upgrage it to XP Professional but get a message
saying Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller-
24CD has not passed some kind of MS compatibility test and
to contact hardware vendor--otherwise there may be issues
in the future. We ignored the warning and now the USB2.0
port does not work. Any suggestions?

Hi Lin,

Yes, contact Dell about getting a proper driver set to support those ports
under WinXP Pro. Retail versions of Windows XP do not always have all the
necessary drivers for OEM systems. You may also need to install SP1 before
it will work.

When you upgraded to XP Pro, was it XP Pro, SP1? If not, download and
install the SP1 update:
