I've loaded all of the Canon software for my C5500 machine
and with it attached to the computer (Toshiba laptop),
everything works fine.
When I run the computer without the printer, however,
there are multiple problems.
Obviously, the Canon software realizes that the printer
isn't there and logs an error. That's easily fixed by
closing the monitoring program (MONITR32.EXE).
Even after that program is closed, there's a service left
running called "MPSERVIC.EXE". That service is obviously
doing something (maybe polling the parallel port) that
consumes up to 15% of avaialble CPU.
If I'm playing an audio or video file (with any program),
there are skips and jerks in the playback everytime the
MPSERVIC.EXE grabs a piece of the CPU.
The service can be manually ended and the problem goes
away, but surely there has to be a better solution than
that.
Any suggestions appreciated.
