Problem with external HD in USB 2.0 port

Posted: 04-16-2004, 01:28 AM
My brand new Western Digital USB 2.0 external hard drive
does not work with Windows XP when plugged into a USB 2.0
port. When plugged into the 2.0 port I constantly
receive "Windows - delayed write failed" error messages,
and tons of Event ID 51 and 57 warnings in Event Viewer.
I've already emailed Western Digital about this issue,
and they were unable to solve the problem. I
also "disabled write caching on the disk" (KB article
330174); disabled System Restore on the external drive;
and I made sure I had the latest Windows XP USB 2.0
drivers (KB article 329632). None of these things worked.
The external drive works fine when plugged into a USB 1.0
port, so I know the drive is working properly. I believe
the problem has to do with the Windows XP drivers. Does
anyone have any suggestions? And does anyone know if
Microsoft is planning to release new drivers to correct
this problem?

Thanks,
Jason
