I have IBM T30 Thinkpad with Win XP Pro. I installed
Blaster worm patch KB823980 and immediately began
experiencing hang during boot up. Had to remove the
battery to reboot and then use "Last known good
configuration" to get computer to boot (wouldn't boot
under "Normal"...never used Safe mode).
After getting to Desktop, I found that my compact flash
memory card in PCMCIA Slot 1 was no longer recognized but
I did get a bubble "New hardware found" with gibberish on
bottom line of hardware bubble.
I uninstalled the patch and rebooted, still had hang
problem but got back to desktop. My CF drive (E

is
still not recognized by the computer although my Dlink
ethernet card is recognized.
I uninstalled/installed the IDE/AtAPI drivers for the CF
card several times without success. Upon boot
completion, computer still does not see the CF card.
While at the Desktop and while the computer is still
booting, I click "Start", "My Computer" and the window
shows my E:drive as being present and just as the
computer finishes booting, the E; drive letter disappears.
I have talked with IBM and they recommended to come to MS
Support.
HELP!! I use the CF all the time so I am in deep trouble
right now.
Thanks in advance to whomever accepts this challenge.
