Look in Controlpanel for energy options and if you have set events.

I.e. what computer shall do when Notebook lid is closed and so on.

Have also a look in the mobility center and see for options.

some powermanagement functions are also handled via the PCs BIOS - lookup
your manual.

Problem with sleep mode on laptop

Does anyone else have this problem with RC1 on a laptop? When I close the
laptop, which puts it into sleep mode, I cannot recover when I raise the
laptop lid. Nothing will bring it out of sleep and the screen stays black.
I have to reboot by pushing the power button. (Toshiba A75-226, 1 GB Ram,
3.1 GHZ Pent4 with Hypethreading. ATI Mobile Radeon 9000 IGP onboard video).
I reported this as a bug in PreRC1. Do I need to report again?

Thanks.

I've had this problem on laptops and desktops. The only way I've found to
get out of it is to hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete, which brings up the, hmmm... don't
quite know what to call it... the full screen window that allows you to
change users, lock computer, etc. Then I hit the red up arrow in the lower
right hand side of the screen and select Restart. Since the system is pretty
much hosed, it will either take a while to restart, i.e., a minute or two,
or it will fail and then I've gotta hit the power button on the PC.

Microsoft took a feature (sleep) that worked very well
on my laptop in WinXP and have totally hosed it. This funky
"hybrid" sleep/hibernation crap, well, it's crap.

The screen you think of is called "Windows NT Security Screen", at least it
was called so in XP and 2000

I recommend you turn sleep mode off.
Control panel -> system maintenance -> on the power options section choose
"change what the power buttons do", then in the bit for closing the lid
change it from sleep, to do nothing.
