Problems with Autoplay

Posted: 05-23-2004, 10:06 PM
On connecting my camera or card reader to my USB port I used to get the usual Autoplay window up 'what do you want to do' open a folder to view the files, View a slide show etc
Now I still get the autoplay window up but it is blank, no options
This is the same for any removeable drives on my machine, eg CD ROM, but only for pictre files. Music files for example bring up a populated autoplay window as expected
This small but annoying problem is driving me nuts
I have tried Tweak UI and disabling/re-enabling everything with no joy.

Just wondering...does the following make a difference?

With your reader/camera connected...go to My Computer...
Right click the icon for your reader/camera and from the
menu...go to...Properties / Autoplay tab...

From the drop window...choose...Pictures...

Left click the...Restore Defaults button / Apply / OK.

If the button is greyed out, that indicates that
the defaults are already selected.

The following info was previously posted by
Yves Alarie...maybe it will help you:

===================================

If the Autoplay window opens, but you do not have
all the previous selections, this is not a big problem.
Click on My Computer to open it and see the list of
drives, etc. displayed in the window.
Connect your camera to your computer.
Power your camera on.
Wait about 15-20 seconds for XP to recognize the
camera. You should hear some beeping. After this,
the Autoplay window will open. Click on Cancel.
At the same time, your camera will be displayed
under My Computer under Devices with Removable
storage. Right click on your camera. Click on
Properties and click on the Autoplay tab. Under Select
a content type, select Pictures. Then change the Actions
to Prompt me each time to choose an action.

We had same problem with Sony Vaio. Solved it by system restoring to early May - prior to installation of Windows update 4. Which creates other problems.
