I assume you upgraded from MM1 to MM2.... maybe you want to use either oneof them as appropriate.
Just get a copy of the main MM1 executable file, rename it, put it in the
folder with MM2, add an icon to your desktop, and you can use either MM1 or
MM2.

Hey PapaJohnThe system already had MM2 and worked just fine the first time. Would uninstalling/reinstalling it be of any benefit? What else could be going on?

I see that a lot.... works once and not again.... MM2 wasn't made to support'pass-thru'.
Microsoft released a utility to help and people who use are generally
positive about their results. There's a link to it on the Problem Solving >
Checklist page of my site, in the section on Limitations.

Is the quality of video at DV-AVI of a level of quality for it to go on a DVD and look as good as the original tape when viewed on a TV?

Hi there,Yes in short. DV-AVI video is converted by whatever dvd authoring software
that you use into the necessary format for burning to the disk. In order to
get the best quality on the disk you need to give your authoring package
the best possible quality to work with. When using Movie Maker to create
that file, DV-AVI is the best you can produce.

Hey JohnThanks for the info. Did you happen to read this thread from the beginning? Any ideas what might be happening to cause MM2 to work one day but not the next? PapaJohn suggested a fix on his website but I'd like to see if there is a fix at the source instead of using a 'workaround'. Thanks again.

Hey PapaJohnI read the Microsoft Knowledge Article about it not supporting video pass through. But at the very bottom of the article it states that when you have a DV camcorder such as my Canon which has analog pass through capability, then you can connect analog video through the camcorder to the computer. So what's the deal? Any chance of bending anyones ear at Microsoft. And if it isn't supposed to work at all, why did it work flawlessly the first time? Thanks.

Greg,Microsoft's Move Maker Team is fully aware of the item... It worked in MM1,
but the feature wasn't included in MM2. I'm not in a position to know why it
wasn't.
Why it worked the first time, and flawlessly to boot... I don't know. It
makes it a bit more confusing. A lot of people have reported the same thing.
But at least, now that you know it doesn't work, you can take appropriate
steps.
