Problems with Direct3d/Direct Draw/Video Overlay?

Hi all. I'm having what I think is a directx problem. Every time I play a
game and exit back to windows xp video play back is extremely dark
afterwards (not watchable) This is true of video played in media player,
powerdvd but not quicktime. The only thing that seems to fix this is
restarting, anybody know a fix for this? (Other than reinstalling windows.)
