Problems installing the XP Service Pack 1 (Express)

I've tried it several times. After it downloads and
begins copying down files, several of them apparently are
not found within the system, so I can't run Windows
anymore, not even in safe mode, after I reset. Some of
these files include the autocheck.exe and ntoskrnl.exe
files.
