| Okay guys, Im not a beginner or a novice either but Im stuck. I have my desktop with a lexmark printer installed. The machine is running XP. File sharing is enabled and I have no problems accessing my shared files. My laptop is running vista and everytime I try to print to it I get the message problem communicating with the printer. Lexmark states I cant share the printer. Any ideas Thanks -- Every day is a good day, its just a matter of perspective. | Guest

| I have a nearly identical problem as Trumeister, different brand new laptop and printer but the Vista and XP problems are the same. The printer is an Oki c5150n for which there are currently no Vista drivers. the network sets up, the Vista laptop reads the XP PC files opens them, but when I attempt to connect to the printer I receive an "Access Denied" message. I have enabled file and printer sharing on both computers. "Robert L [MVP - Networking]" wrote: Quote:

| That is the exact problem I am having. I get the access denied message. The problem I think is the the XP machine will not let the Vista have the right security settings to install the printer. When I right click the printer on the Vista, and click Security, I not that the Vista does not seem to be under the everyone group which only allows printing but not installing?????? | It is a lexmark x1270 printer that has the xp driver installed on the xp machine (compaq)(could be the whole problem there in just one word - compaq) and the vista driver on the vista machine (Laptop)(Acer - not much better than compaq) everything is set correctly for sharing. I can see all my files and I can see the printer. Vista even lets me add and remove the printer on the laptop recognizing its on my network and advising it is able to conect to it. I have gotten to the point where if I print something it shows up as a print job on the printer properties but it just sits there and does nothing and of course the phyiscall printer never does anthing. There is nothing wong with the printer, it prints just fine when I start a print job from xp or if I connect the printer directly to the lap top via usb. I shouldn't have to do this. Any idea's - thanks -- Every day is a good day, its just a matter of perspective. "Trumiester" wrote: Quote:
