Problems with download

Hi My name is Dawn and I've got a problem that I'm hoping
that someone can help me fix. The problem is that I've
downloaded Windows xp and I've got a scanner that I need
to download onto my computer. Well the problem comes in
when I go to add new hardware that there is my compaq 3
times on there. I know that 1 of them is for windows ME
because that is the one that I had on here before. Well
I'm trying to get the other compaq's off of there so that
I can download the right now.
I know that this message is pretty crazy sounding and I'm
sorry. But just need some help to get the other copies
off the software off of my program files because it's
causing a conflict to where I can't add the right one so
that I can run my scanner. It shows that it's got it on
there 2 times and there is a yellow question mark on them
because of the conflict. Pleas someone help me with this
