Problems with my CD-RW Drive...

My CD burner is awefully moody!!! Sometimes, when I go to burn a CD, my computer just flat out doesn't recognize my burner. It doesn't list it under My Computer, and it doesn't list it in the Device Manager. This really just comes and goes randomly. I'll just get on the computer, and it's gone. Then, in a day or two, it's back all by itself. What's causing this and how can I fix it?
