Problems with upper cases on my keyboard

What is wrong with my computer?

I have a lap top, Siemens Fujitsu Life Book. My son-in-law helped me to buy this computer second hand some months ago, and I don´t really know how old it is. My keyboard is a standard 101/102 Key or Microsoft Natural PS2 Keyboard. It is plugged in the Keyboard port. I´ve got Windows XP and Office 2000 installed on my had disk.

I´ve got problems with word processing when I am using the computer´s own keyboard..
When I try to write upper cases by clicking Shift keys the computer sometimes does not do anything. It just stops and seems to get "locked".
Some letters are more "locked" than others. For example it is almost always impossible to write M no matter if I press the Shift key on the right or left side. Some times however I manage to write M but having no idea why. .
The letter S is most often possible to write if I press the left Shift button, but not the right. About half of the upper cases are "locked" in this way - they only "obey" the left or right Shift key.
Some letters however , as Ö for example are possible to write by pressing both the right and left Shift key.
The problems are the same no matter if I use NotePad, Word or e-mail

When I am using an old separate keyboard which is connected in the parallel port in a docking station (?) all the keys work all right.
I have tried to see if there are some special settings made in Windows, but haven´t found anything that could explain my problems.

It seems to be something wrong with the keybboard. What could it be? Is it worth repairing?

If everything works with a different keyboard, then it
doesn't sound as though windows is at fault. It is
probably more likely to be a problem within the laptop
itself (i.e hardware rather than software) Either the
keys themselves are becoming stuck (not making contact)
or the keyboard controller is defective(a small circuit
that interprets your keystrokes). Either way, it's
unlikely to be something you can fix yourself. A trip to
a hardware repairer is more likely

Hi,

I would suggest you to go the the laptop manufacturer's website to download the drivers of the keyboard.
If still no avail, just use the external keyboard.
It is not worth for a expensive repair for a loptop over 3 years old.
