Problems with vista installation.

Posted: 05-22-2007, 03:17 PM
Hi I would be grateful If someone could help me.

I have just bought a new computer... but unfortunately I can't install vista
on it.
Athlon 64 X2 4200 Msi K9N Platinum nForce Geforce8600GT These are the most
important parts of my computer. When I try to install Vista the installation
stops in a moment where there is a black screen, white "Microsoft
Corporation" and a slider .

I have no difficulties in installing Windows Xp.

Most likely you need to supply a driver for the graphics chip.
Driver support for 64-bit Vista is scanty, so folks here are
advising people to install 32-bit Vista on 64-bit hardware for
now. I've heard that nVidia's Vista drivers are a bit flakey
even for 32-bits, so keep things well backed-up.

Doesn't the system needs to be installed before he can supply a driver for
the graphics chip?

No. The Windows installer stops and asks you for any custom drivers
while it's still using bonehead VGA mode. Once the installer tries
to use the graphics chip in a fancier mode, it will hang or crash
if it doesn't have the right graphics driver.
