Problems with Windows XP running Media Player 9

I have just installed a copy of XP and I am having a
problem that Windows Media player continues to cause the
system to lock up, when I try to play a CD. There are
periods when I do get the system to play CD music. I
have added addition 128M to my already intalled 256M Rom
memory, but this does not seem to help. I have a 750MHz
Pentium 3 system.
