Product Key ?

Hi fella, the one on the back of your current computer will be the product
key for the version of windows that came pre-installed on your system. You
need to contact Microsoft to get hold of a unique product key for Vista. If
you ask nicely, they will sort you out . Try to avoid asking for product
keys on here though mate, alot of people find it disrespective and won't take
too lightly to it . Anymore questions, email me.

Just so I understand correctly, you tried your Windows XP key to activate
Windows Vista?

Why don't you try the product key you were given when you registered for the
Customer Preview Program?
