Profile damaged, my documents empty

Posted: 08-07-2003, 06:53 AM
After burning a CD_ROM my PC crashed and respond a
couple of times after logon with message:
The system has recovered from a serious error
WHen that was finished, i observe that a lot of desktop
icons were lost.
In the local settings a new user account was made
<My name>.<pc name> iso <My name>

Also all the information in the Local settings directory
of the old user account is not visible anymore via Windows
Explorer (Norton Windoctor is hanging on that directory.
So all my user info is lost
Also the email accounts were lost

I tried to restore a previous Windows XP installation but
that fails (It mentions that it was not possible to
restore a previous version)

Is there a way to restore a user info of my previous user
account

thanks

If the previous user account is still there, the following Knowledge Base
Article might help retrieve the information:

It is a pitty but local settings directory is empty when
I browse to that directory, so I can not restore from
that drive.

The strange thing is that windoctor is hanging on that
directory (I think that there is still info but not
visible)

Is there another way to restore the info Maybe via some
shareware/freeware tooling

thanks
