Profile Viewing

Posted: 08-02-2003, 06:20 PM
I have just loaded XP and the messenger says that to view
a profile I need an Add-In and takes me to a download site
of multiple add-ins but does not tell me which I need to
download. My old ME had no problems viewing profile.
What Add-in do I need. Also, I keep getting multiple
Messenger Service Messages to buy things which I did not
get with ME. How do I stop this?? Thanks.

Greetings,

You can find the Add-in here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/mes...indownload.asp

As for the "Messenger Service" popups, what you're seeing is the Messenger service built-in
to Windows, *not* Windows Messenger (which are two different things) which spammers are
exploiting -- this is not Microsoft, nor can Microsoft control them anymore then they can
control spam to your e-mail inbox.

To get rid of these pop ups, you'll need to disable the "Messenger Service", click Start,
then Run, enter "services.msc"and click OK. Scroll down to "Messenger", select it,
right-click and then choose Properties. Under startup type, choose 'Disabled' and then
choose the 'Stop' button. After the service is stopped, click OK. Nothing in Windows or any
real third-party applications should be effected by this.
