Program and access defaults resetting

Posted: 01-21-2004, 11:15 PM
My program and access defaults (in "Add or remove
programs") keeps setting itself to the custom setting. I
would like it set to the manufacturer settings, but
everytime that I switch it the curser moves right back to
the custom settings box. I have tried adjusting it from
the user and owner accounts both to no avail. Because of
the current configurations WMP is not opening and it is
really unnerving. Also there is a program
called "Viewpoint Media Player" that everytime I
uninstall it re-installs itself. Any advice? Please email
me: kgt09@aol.com thanks

Kevin;
Since Viewpoint Media Player seems to reinstall it self, it is
probably the crux of your problem.
You should uninstall it, try Add/Remove Programs and/or this site for
information:
http://www.viewpoint.com/index1.html...rzone/5-1.html
Viewpoint Media Player may be setting itself as the default player
thus the Custom setting.

It doesn't go back to Custom because it's changing your settings - Set
Program Access and Defaults always defaults to Custom upon opening, but your
settings haven't changed. It's not changing what WMP is doing for it to do
this, this is just simply the setting that Set Program Access and Defaults
always opens with.

If you choose "Computer Manufacturer", the settings in there is what it is
set to, but the problem is that "default app" is more complicated than Set
Program Access and Defaults can really tell. There's a different app for
html, ftp, opening files, ect, even though those can all be browser
functions. So, because SPAD really can't tell, it simply tells you Custom,
rather than give you incorrect information.

Hope this helps.
