programs opening from start menu on its own

I have been having a problem with my computer all of a
sudden opening up programs from the startup menu on its
own while I am either on or off line. I have PCPowerscan
and everytime I run it I'm told I have a missing or
invalid connection but it cannot fix the problem. What
should I do?
