>Yes there is Amber. Do this: Click Start/Run/type
MSCONFIG click OK. Click the StartUp tab. You'll see
all the programs that are checked, now click "disable
all" but recheck your anti-virus program, if it is Norton
it will start with NAV. Click Apply, then Close and
reboot. Now you have a "mean, lean machine" and will run
and boot a lot faster and nothing has been deleted.

There is no such thing as "should." Every program you run in the
background is a tradeoff; it does something for you at some cost
to you in performance. Only you can decide whether that tradeoff
is worth it, for *you*. Nobody else's opinion counts.

The *number* of background programs you have running is generally
unimportant. What is important is *which* they are. Some
background programs are doing something almost all the time, and
can impact performance severely; others are much more benign, and
have an almost insignificant effect on performance.

That may well be, but it isn't necessarily so. What makes you
think so? What background programs are you running?

Default Re: Programs running in Background

i went through each program listed under the StartUp tab
and found that a few didn't even exist anymore...were
programs I had deleted, some I couldn't even find the
files through seaching all files (even hidden) and had no
clue what they were to begin with, a couple I figured out
what they were and found/chose to not run them and a
couple I was unsure of

WinStart001.exe-b
WINSTA-1.exe-b
sentry.exe
srmclean.exe

I've disabled them for now, so far hasn't caused any
problems and things do seem to be running a little
smoother.

Thanks, Amber
