Proper shutdown & sleep method with e-sata drive

Posted: 02-14-2008, 08:55 PM
Hi all:
This is my first experience with an external hard drive. I am not sure
the proper procedure to follow when I put the pc into sleep and when I want
to shutdown the pc. Do I just hit sleep, then after the pc sleeps switch off
the e-sata drive? When I shut down the pc do I shutdown first then turn off
the e-sata drive? I am using Vista Ultimate O.S. and the pc has four 500 GB
internal Sata drives in AHCI mode(no RAID) and 1 external 1 TB e-sata drive
connected to a Silicone Image sata controller in one of the PCIE x1 slots. I
don't want to damage the external drive by turning it off incorrectly. The
e-sata drive is already formatted in NTFS and operating just fine. I
couldn't find any info on my question........probably because it is such a
dumb question. Anyone care to help an overly cautious senior citizen?
