Proper way to install S/W for all users

Posted: 07-08-2003, 05:46 PM
Can someone provide the proper procedure for installing
application software items in XP so that all users have
access to use it. Example: I installed A card creating
program as the administrator and it does not run for
limited users. Is there a switch I nedd to set somewhere.

Thanks for your help.

There is no single or simple answer to this and sometimes even policy editor
in XP Pro can't do it because some, actually, many applications were not
designed for a multi-user environment. This will likely change as
developers catch up with XP and soon we may see setup routines with an
option to make the application available to one or all users or even to be
able to select specific users.

In the meantime, you usually have to install the application in each user
account. If the user is a limited user, you temporarily make the user an
administrator, install the application, then return the account to its
limited status. It takes up no additional space on the hard drive, you
simply continue to install to the same directory. This process usually
creates the proper pointers so each user my have access to the application.
