Microsoft does not send out messages like this to individuals or on mass
emails. strongly suggest this is ignored/deleted as could contain malicious
code.

Microsoft DOES warn of updates IF YOU ARE SUBSCRIBED TO THE APPROPRIATE
MAILING LIST, but never, ever attaches them to the e-mail (major waste
of bandwidth considering the amount of patches they have and have few
people actually need them).
Also, the e-mails never look like that, at all.

Additionally, that ZIP is corrupt or a virus. WinRAR refuses to open it,
and I would never, ever use WinZIP.

It's a known hoax & virus... If you HAD opened it, you'd be regretting it
right about now!

No.
The flaw exists in WinZIP, if anything. It's a corrupt archive.
Unless, of course, the ZIP got damaged in the transfer, in which case I
would still get to see the contents of the ZIP, and I would have to run
what's inside it to be infected.
