Disconnect network/modem cable.
Does it now shut down OK?
If so, go to BIOS.
Look for something like "Wake on LAN", normally under Power tab.
Disable it.

I upgraded from windows ME to windows Xp and I was wondering do I have to
keep the back up file from ME or can i delete them? If I don't need them I

>go to your control pannel and click on add and remove,
if it is there, just uninstall it. If it is not there you
will have to open up windows explored, and open up C and
find it and delete it, it might be in program files there
or in the windows folder, you will have to search for it
there, good luck

Karen,
As I upgraded from 98se to XP Pro, I understand that the backup files are
there if you need to restore back to ME.
If the upgrade is working OK, I see no need and as I deleted mine I have not
needed them either.
