Default Question re: different shells - newbie question

Can anyone point me towards an article that explains the different
shells. I am using the Explorer shell right now and I don't think
thats what I want to be using. I am using a web application running
purely in IIS. I never need to be able to get to the "desktop"

Thanks for any advice
