Question for MVPs

Posted: 02-02-2006, 07:49 PM
I'm writing an article for Microsoft Home Magazine about getting music help
online if you're an XP user. I was wondering if one of the MVPs could tell me
what the most common problems are for XP users when it comes to music. What
are the three most common questions you see posted here? If possible, I would
also like to provide readers with the answers to those questions.
Thanks in advance for your time and help,
Alyson Munroe

ps Thanks to Galen for directing me here.

There's a bunch of WMP FAQs on microsoft.com (MS keeps moving them or
deleting them to make it hard to find, bookmark or solve issues)

In recent months:

1. How do I get rid of the 2-second gaps between tracks on Audio CDs
I've burned?
A: You can't with WMP. You have to use alternate software. (This is a
perennial FAQ).

2. How do I get WMP to interoperate with iTunes/iPod?
A: Lengthy answer :-)

3. Why won't WMP add all my music files to my Library?
A: Who knows?

4. Why don't my MP3 CDs play back in the order of the playlist I used to
create them?
A: Most MP3-capable CD players play the tracks back in alphanumeric
order, so you may have all tracks beginning with 01 played first, then
02 etc. To keep albums together you need to burn them in folders, and
that requires using software other than Windows Media Player.

Answer to #1:
Burnatonce (without 2 second gap or use Roxio)

Almost *everything* but WMP burns without the gap

Thanks so much for your help.

A lot of the people I interviewed said their first big problem was around
licensing, and that they found out the hard way (not all songs in their
playlist burn to CD) about number of burn times. Is this a common question
here as well? What do you tell those people?

Thanks again,
Alyson
