Question's about activation

Posted: 01-04-2009, 11:37 AM

Hello everyone

I've a question about when Vista takes note of your computers hardware
Just finished a new build but hadn't received all my final parts an
was excited to install Vista 64 Oem. The install went well. Everythin
is updated and running smooth however this week I'll swap and add ne
parts and that's the hardware setup I'd like to have Vista take note of
I haven't activated my key yet if that matters. (hope it does)
Thanks in advance for any replies

If you haven't activated then no information on your hardware has been
passed to Microsoft. It is only on activation that this information is
gathered.

In actual fact, it is always wise not to activate until you are satisfied
with the performance of your PC or, in your case, you have finished
modifying your system. However, even if you did modify your system after
activation, if the system requested activation again, a message would appear
saying 'the product key is already in use.' If this happen just opt for the
'telephone' activation, go through the automated sequence to see if it
activates. If activation is refused stay on the line and wait to be put
through to a 'real' representative and explain the situation and they will
help you to reactivate.

There is no limit on activations, it is just a case that, after the first
one, you will need to telephone the activation number (this will be
displayed when you choose 'telephone activation') In most countries this is
a toll free (free phone) number.
