RDP to pc on vpn'd network

Posted: 04-14-2004, 06:03 PM
In the past, when not using my DLink 604 router, I could vpn to the SBS
server at work, and then RDP directly to my pc behind that network by typing
pcname.servername.local in the "Computer" box of the dialog for RDP (the
"local" part is literal, the non-public domain suffix for that network as
recommended by Microsoft, the first two parts are substituted for the acutal
name).

It worked perfectly , whether my DSL modem was connected directly to my
computer or I had a Netopia router in between.

The Netopia died, so I substituted the Dlink with latest firmware.

RDP still works fine, going directly to an ip address, VPN still works fine,
but I can no longer RDP past the vpn connection as above.

I realize most folks don't know that you can RDP through a VPN to a third
computer, but do any of you experts out there have an idea what this silly
Dlink is screwing up?

I tried disabling UPNP (universal plug'n'pray) on the Dlink, but that didn't
change anything, other than allowing VPN connections to sync up faster.

Bob
