Re-install Vista Ultimate

Posted: 09-10-2007, 12:00 PM
Hello...can someone help, please.
I purchased an upgrade of 'Vista Ultimate' back in May 2007' to upgrade from
'Vista Premium' which Dell had put on my machine.

I have recently had problem's on my PC and have had to re-install everything
with the help of Dell. Unfortunately, Dell cannot install the Ultimate
upgrade, although I have the upgrade disc and the information from my
dig/locker.

When Dell try's to install the Ultimate upgrade the message 'Windows could
not configure one or more components' comes up. Dell suggested that I contact
M/soft and get the original software key from them (cannot find mine!). This
I have done today and was told that they will not give me the key I have to
go through Dell Vista support!!!!

I am tearing my hair out, Dell tell's me to contact M/soft & M/soft tell's
me to contact Dell. I have the orginal invoice with all my details on it but
M/soft did not want to know! Infact the person on the other end of the phone
was not willing to listen to me, and I ended up putting the phone down as I
did not like their attitude.

Regards...Pammie

That's why it says on every box... Keep the key in a safe place... If you
lost your key it's no biggie... since you can recover it from your current
instalation... but if you format you lose that too...

If you have a receipt then contact dell support and request that they
exchange the key or smth....

Thanks for your reply Samoila,
'Yes' I agree, total twit that I am. I tried this morning at M/soft to get
my orginal or an exchange key but they did not want to know. I will have
another do at Dell.
Cheers...Pammie

If it's OEM, which it sounds like it is, then the Product ID should be on a
sticker on your computer provided by Dell. If Dell did not provide you with
the sticker, they are at fault since even with OEM they must provide the
Product Key in written form upon sell of product.

If they failed at this, you can still get the product key with a free
program called Belarc Advisor. But, this won't work if they've formatted the
drive.

Regarding the WAU (on-line license key), there is no product key that is
usable other than installing it, BUT...
even it will not work unless the original installed product is ACTIVATED
first. (Been there. Done that.)

Thank you Mark
I will check out Belarc Advisor, and thanks for the heads up about the
product key being activated.
