Received time is shown 8 hrs behind

Posted: 04-20-2007, 07:32 AM

I have searched the forum for the answer but to no avail.

Why does my inbox show the received time of emails 8 hours behind the
actual sent time, according to the email header (ctrl+F3)?
And how do I change it?

If you mean eight hours before it was sent, you or the sender has their
clock set wrong.

Yes, 8 hours before it was sent but for all emails, from anyone. My
system clock is correct.

Well, then the sender or his ISP is not correct.

Lezza,

Is your time zone set correctly? (I think all header times are set to GMT
when sent and converted back to your time zone for display).
The information in the header itself may actualy be in GMT with a time
offset given just after it.

Whoops, got that backwards.

The sent time on this message should be 09:52 -04:00
(sent at 09:52 from my clock which is eastern time zone (-5hours) with
daylight saving (+1hours) for -04:00 offset

I have the same problem as Leeza. My clock shows the correct local time, but
even local emails show received 3 hours earlier. Where do I check/change the
time zone of incoming messages?

The header on your message shows sent time as 08:50:01 -0700
My system is Eastern time with daylight savings in effect (-0400)
Therefore on my reader program (Windows Mail, Vista Home Premium) it shows a
sent time of 08:50 + 0700 - 0400) or 11:50 AM, which is probably the correct
time you sent by my machine,
08:50 on your machine.

You don't change the time zone for incoming messages, that is placed there
by the sender so that your mail reader can correct for local time.

FYI this messages is being sent at 12:29 PM

The reason all your incoming messages have a received time that
is off by 8 hours is because your PC is set for the US eastern time zone,
when physically you are in the UK. You need to correct your PC's
time zone.
