You set it to Auto in what setup? Are you referring to the BIOS setup?
Otherwise, there is no setup required for these drives, other than to make
sure you have the jumpers set correctly - one for master, and one for slave.
Consult the documentation that came with the drives for correct jumper
settings.

....Or if the mobo is new enough and you know the cable supports CS (cable
select), leave both drives set up for CS that way you won't to worry if you got
them both correct or not. I leave all my drives set to CS and have not had a
single problem.
