Recording audio form analog(reel to reel)

Just run a cable from your "line out" on your stereo to your pc's "line in"
on your sound card. Then check your sound cards mixer to insure the input
level for the "line in" is ok and that it's not muted. Note some sound cards
have separate controls for playback and recording, insure you actually "tell
the sound card driver" to include the "line in" as one of the possible
recording "lines". I have to be vague about specifics because every sound
card sets up it's mixer and dialogs slightly differently.

Then just start playing your tape as per normal on your stereo while
recording it on your pc. If you have all the wires hooked up right, you
should hear the tape also playing in your pc's speakers. Note : the "line
in" on your sound card can be directly connected to the "line out"
(tape/out) on your tape deck, probably need to get a stereo rca to sub-mini
adapter but that's it. No external stereo even required.

Then once you have the wiring, input settings and levels set right, it's
just a matter of strarting your favorite recording software and playing the
tape. Usually (depends on software) you end up with either a wave file you
burn to a music cd or optionally convert it to mp3, wma etc.. 3rd party
tools depends upon feature set of recording software.

I do it regularily recording my vinyl collection as I have time. I use
SoundForge to record and AudioCatalyst to convert resulting wav files to
mp3. I record each side of the album in one session then cut and paste each
track, saving to it's own file.
